Our landscaped garden is a peaceful outside space that residents have access to all year round. Featuring dedicated sections including a gardening area, sensory space, children’s play area, spaces for leisurely strolls, areas to sit and relax and even enjoy meals, we have created a garden that is tailored entirely to our residents, allowing them to use it in any way they wish.

At Woodlands Care Home, our beautifully landscaped gardens are accessible all year round, offering a safe and welcoming environment for residents of all mobility levels. Residents can move freely into the garden, enjoying frequent seating areas and our beautiful sensory space. The garden is thoughtfully designed to be inclusive and usable throughout the seasons, ensuring everyone can benefit from time spent outdoors

Keeping Life Interesting at Woodlands

Our dedicated gardener keeps the grounds meticulously maintained, including a sensory garden filled with herbs and a sensory seating area for relaxation and stimulation. Residents play an active role in shaping their environment through our Garden Committee, where they help decide on planting and design. Our outdoor space also includes an intergenerational play area, a new pétanque court for friendly games, and creative projects like resident-made bird boxes and a hedgehog hotel.

Our outdoor sensory space includes a seating area where residents and their loved ones can sit together, surrounded by the soothing scents of herbs and plants. The sensory area offers various tactile experiences with shells, feathers, stones, hanging plants and green foliage, as well as auditory elements like wind chimes, windmills and birdsong.

Our Landscaped Gardens Facilities

As part of our Events & Wellbeing Programme, Woodlands Care Home offers gardening activities for our green-fingered residents. We plant a variety of flowers and greenery, adding our own personal touch to the landscape. Additionally, we have recently added more raised planters and herbs, making it easier for residents to engage in gardening.

We are committed to making the garden experience accessible to everyone, including bedbound residents, who can enjoy a livestream of the bird camera on a large screen iPad. In good weather, we host outdoor events and activities, featuring entertainers and BBQs, to foster a lively and social atmosphere. At Woodlands, our gardens are more than just a place to stroll—they are a vibrant hub for connection, creativity, and wellbeing

We understand the importance of incorporating outdoor activities for our residents’ overall well-being. Stepping outside to breathe in fresh air, engage in outdoor activities, and connect with nature should be regularly achieved. The outdoors provides numerous mental and physical benefits, including stress and anxiety reduction, improved mood, enhanced cardiovascular health, balance and muscle strength.

We organise a variety of outdoor activities at Woodlands Care Home, including exercise sessions, gardening, lawn games and more. When the weather allows, residents have the opportunity to dine in the garden and enjoy live entertainment outdoors.

The gardens at Woodlands Care Home are accessible to all, featuring wheelchair-accessible paths and comfortable seated furniture. The private garden is secure with fencing and gates, ensuring residents stay within the garden boundaries. Our well-maintained paths, outdoor lighting, and other safety features contribute to a secure environment.
