Supporting Meaningful Connections Through Innovation at Woodlands Care Home

ENRICH Scotland

Residents at Woodlands Care Home recently took part in a thoughtful and engaging initiative aimed at strengthening communication and connection, particularly for those living with dementia.

The home was honoured to be invited by ENRICH Scotland to trial a set of innovative exchange cards. These cards have been carefully designed to support more meaningful interactions, helping to spark conversation, encourage engagement, and make communication easier and more enjoyable for residents.

The project is led by Kirsty Hynes, whose passion for improving connection and understanding has been at the heart of its development. Originally inspired by experiences linked to Parkinson’s, the initiative has since expanded to support a wider range of individuals, including those living with dementia.

During the sessions, residents gathered together in a relaxed and welcoming environment, using the cards to prompt discussion, share thoughts, and connect with one another. The simple yet effective approach encouraged participation from everyone, creating moments of conversation, laughter, and reflection.

Activities like this play an important role in supporting emotional wellbeing, helping residents feel heard, valued, and included. By introducing new and innovative ways to communicate, the team continues to enhance daily life within the home and ensure that every individual has the opportunity to engage in a way that suits them.

At Woodlands Care Home, there is a strong focus on creating meaningful experiences that go beyond routine care. Initiatives such as this highlight the home’s ongoing commitment to person-centred care, where relationships, understanding, and connection remain at the heart of everything they do.
