Woodlands Care Home Introduces Piano Lessons for Residents
At Woodlands, we are dedicated to fostering the pursuit of new hobbies and the cultivation of existing talents among our residents.
Through conversations with our residents, we discovered that many had played musical instruments in the past but had lost confidence or lacked time to continue their practice after starting families. Recognising that learning knows no age limits, we partnered closely with The Rock Rooms, an organisation renowned for its effective and friendly approach to music education.
As part of this collaboration, our residents have been enjoying piano lessons facilitated by The Rock Rooms. These lessons incorporate coloured stickers as a visual aid, simplifying the learning process and enabling quicker mastery of songs, particularly beneficial for residents living with dementia.
Our residents have been thoroughly engaged in their music lessons, demonstrating noticeable improvement with each passing week. The melodic strains of piano music have filled our home, lifting spirits and inspiring others to explore the keyboard themselves. Participating in regular piano lessons instills our residents with a sense of accomplishment as they acquire a new skill, fostering pride in their ability to enjoy music firsthand.
These lessons have become a cherished and recurring aspect of life at Woodlands and we eagerly anticipate the possibility of hosting a concert in the future to showcase the progress and talents of our residents.
