We love to encourage our residents to find new hobbies and also nurture existing talents at Woodlands.
From talking with our residents, several have played instruments in the past, however, they have either lost their confidence or after having families they didn’t have the time to continue.
We believe that at any age you can learn new things and this lead us to working closely with The Rock Rooms. The Rock Rooms is an organisation that provides music lessons to students and now care home residents, adopting a friendly and effective approach to teaching music.
The residents were having piano lessons using coloured stickers rather than the notes which is an easier way of visualising the piece of music and getting to learn a song quicker, especially for our residents that have dementia.
Our residents have been thoroughly enjoying their music lessons and are improving week by week! Many have heard the music radiating through the home which has lifted spirits and had others wanting to have a go on the keyboard. Partaking in regular piano lessons gives our residents a sense of achievement in learning a new skill coupled with pride in being able to enjoy music at their own fingertips.
These lessons will be a regular occurrence at Woodlands, and we hope to be able to hold a wee concert in due course!
